Why Supplements are Essential in a Modern World
The world in which we live is quite different from that of our parents, grandparents and great grandparents. Farming methods have changed dramatically, producing food which is frequently full of pesticides, hormones and antibiotics.
The soil in which our fruit and vegetables are grown is often depleted of nutrients. The lives we lead are stressful, and fast food is an all too frequent addition to our diet.
Farming Today and our Food
Modern farming methods, together with the use of pesticides, have successfully ensured that the food we eat today has a much lower nutritional value than food of yesteryear and also exposes us to toxins and chemicals. Many commercial livestock farmers use hormones and antibiotics in their breeding programmes which we ingest when we consume the farmers’ meat products. GM foods may cause health issues long term but the evidence for this is conflicting and some scientists strongly disagree with this premise, so the jury is still out.
Life today is fast paced and the desire to succeed is often put ahead of leading a balanced lifestyle, which can eventually lead to physical and mental illness. Trying to follow a balanced diet, following a regular exercise routine, working long hours, commuting to work, juggling kids and not getting enough sleep all play a part in the rise of chronic illness around the globe.
It’s far too easy after a hard day at work or a stressful day with the children, to pick up a pizza or a burger or get it delivered to your home. Fast food is generally full of empty calories and sadly lacking in essential vitamins and minerals.
Supplements correct nutrient deficiencies caused by our lifestyle and the foods we eat, allowing us to lead long, healthy lives. Supplements help prevent depression and allow our brains to function at optimal levels. Supplements help prevent disease and encourage healthy aging.
